National security tech drove the DMV's biggest deals this week, with an Arlington maritime intelligence startup landing $140 million and a Chantilly cyber intelligence company announcing a $1.25 billion path to Nasdaq. In DC, a months-old federal AI startup made its first acquisition, buying a McLean analytics firm to speed up its push into agency workflows. Maryland's activity came through state capital, as TEDCO and the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund backed an edtech company in Bethesda and a non-opioid pain therapy startup in Baltimore.

Deal notes

  • Quartermaster says it has more than 800 SmartMast units on 650+ vessels. Its SEC Form D, filed this week, reports about $122.6M in equity sold, which is more than the $100M equity figure in the announcement.
  • REDLattice is a mature, venture and private equity backed company (founded 2012) rather than an early-stage startup. It reported $267M in revenue for the 12 months ending June 30, 2026, and expects the deal to close around the end of 2026.
  • Statecraft did not disclose terms for Daybreak, an applied AI, geospatial and data analytics firm serving national security and public safety agencies.
  • SereNeuro Therapeutics was the only company among 15 awardees in the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund's first FY2027 cycle, which awarded more than $4.8M in total.

Also on file with the SEC

  • Twenty Technologies (Arlington, VA) filed a Form D on September 25 reporting about $131.3M in equity sold, with a first sale date of May 4, 2026. This appears to relate to the $100M Series B it announced in June rather than a new round. SEC filing
  • Uvantis Therapeutics (Columbia, MD) filed a Form D on September 23 for a $5M debt and options offering, with $100,000 sold so far. No public announcement yet. SEC filing
